Description

Personal narratives from bisexual, pansexual, polysexual, sexually-fluid, and other non-monosexual perspectives.

Compiled by Faith Beauchemin, How Queer! is a curated collection of fourteen autobiographical essays from ordinary bisexual, pansexual, and sexually fluid people.

Intertwined with commentary from Beauchemin, join these narratives as they tackle all too common themes in the LGBTQ community such as activism, homophobia, religious bias, non-monosexual visibility, and constant double-edged experiences.

How Queer! collects fourteen different autobiographical essays not from sociologists or professional activists, but rather by ordinary bisexual, pansexual, and sexually-fluid folks. These authors come from a range of backgrounds, while their personal narratives explore similar overarching themes. Some of these themes include non-monosexual visibility, activism, confrontation with homophobia and religious bias, as well as endlessly double-edged experiences in the LGBTQ community.

This collection of stories can bring a sense of understanding to anyone wanting to learn more about gender and sexual identity. Whether to aid in defining their own journey, to increase their awareness, or to build solidarity with with one another, How Queer! can come in handy in a personal collection.

Faith Beauchemin offers her personal commentary in a series of reflective essays, which place the writers' experiences in the context of broader movements for radical social change. Beauchemin argues that a trend of bisexual erasure in LGBTQ activism is all too prevalent, and it functions to serve not the interest of the community, but of patriarchy, sexism, as well as homophobia.

Contrasting the trend of erasure, the narratives brought together in How Queer! subvert oppressive hierarchies. They highlight the perspectives and revolutionary potential of folks who refuse to neatly fit into narrow categories of sexual identity that are constantly being imposed on them.

Paperback, 128 pages.
