ON AIR: An In Depth Review of the Next by WOMANIZER

When we first blogged about air pulse toys back in 2014, they were a brand new sex tool technology, having just been invented by a Bavarian man named Michael Lenke, whose wife happily tested his prototypes. Together, the couple launched the WOMANIZERTM brand. Over the past decade, air pulse toys have gained popularity, with most major toy brands offering at least one model. Why the explosion? Let’s address that stimulating question first!

Air Pulse Toys

Given their name, it’s no secret that these toys use pulsing air puffs instead of touching toy to clitoris. A traditional vibrator is moved near or on the clitoris to provide stimulation. Air pulse toys are designed to create a chamber within which the clitoris is stimulated by waves of air, pulsating at whatever speed and pattern are selected. The resulting sensation more closely resembles oral stimulation, which a lot of clitoris-owners enjoy.

Although vibrators in general have been demonstrated to help many folks become aroused and orgasmic, air pulse toys address one of the chief complaints among vibrator users: clitoral sensitivity to direct touch. The motors used in vibrators are going to determine the range of amplitudes and frequencies the toy will produce. More of this technical stuff in a minute. You, the user, will be offered two types of setting options on most vibrators: Pattern and intensity. Patterns typically include a consistent vibration and modulated vibrations that vary the repetition, of the vibrations. Intensity varies how quickly the vibrations occur. But there’s another dimension: amplitude. While both high and low frequency vibrators will often offer multiple patterns and intensities, few of them vary the amplitude of the vibrations by much. There’s no need to have a degree in physics or sound engineering to understand why (but I do thank my high school physics teacher, who was an avid surfer, for all the lessons on waves!).

If you’ve shopped for any type of vibrator, you may have heard the terms “buzzy” and “rumbly” to describe different types of vibrations a toy’s motor produces. “Buzzy” motors produce higher frequency, lower amplitude vibrations, like an electric toothbrush. Buzzy vibrators can provide intense sensations on the skin and adjacent subcutaneous tissues. Sometimes, users may find them a bit too intense and occasionally feel some temporary numbness after use. The ultimate household example of a high frequency/low amplitude motor is a microwave, which usually heats the outside layer of your food better than the inner layers.

“Rumbly” motors create a higher amplitude, lower frequency vibration that is able to penetrate into deeper layers of tissues. Think of the car next to you jamming to some music with a heavy bass line–you feel the bass through your body because it’s high amplitude. Clitoral tissues are almost entirely internal, so higher amplitude vibrators will stimulate more of the clitoral tissues. Air pulse toys also generally use higher amplitude air waves to penetrate deeper into issues. But not all air pulse toy manufacturers combine expert understanding of clitoral physiology and physics to maximize the pleasure potential. Womanizer does.

Review of the Womanizer Next

Womanizer has continued to evolve the air pulse technology and remains a leader in the air pulse industry. One of its newest products is the Next by Womanizer, which uses a significantly upgraded technology the company calls 3D Pleasure Air. Pleasure Air technology introduces “depth,” a new dimension to speed/intensity and pattern options. With 3D Pleasure Air, a user can keep the speed of the air pulse sensations constant while deepening the penetration of the stimulation (i.e., increasing the amplitude). For those who play with a highly sensitive clitoris, this additional feature allows for more gentle stimulation that can be adjusted from shallow to deep stimulation of the genital tissues.

The Next by Womanizer offers a lot of helpful features for maximizing pleasure for a variety of clitoris owners (and nipple owners too!):

Waterproof: It has a 1PX7 waterproof rating, which means it is submersible to approximately 3 feet for up to 30 minutes, so it can be your go-to toy for a sensual, relaxing bath.
Quiet: It’s exceedingly quiet by sex-toy standards and includes the Smart Silence feature, which places the toy in standby mode when not held against skin.
Range of Intensity Levels: The Womanizer Next offers 14 intensity levels to appeal to a broader range of clitoral sensitivity levels than most toys.
Climax Control: This innovative feature allows you to find the perfect intensity level for you in that moment then increase the amplitude (what “Climax Control is”) so the stimulation reaches deeper into the clitoral tissues. If we do the math, you get 14 intensities at 3 Climax Control depth options for 42 total manual settings.
Auto-Pilot: This feature allows you to let the toy take control of your experience, similar to what happens when a partner is providing your stimulation. You won’t quite know what the next sensation will be, but Womanizer’s experts used research on actual humans to program the auto-pilot, providing levels of sensation that have been shown to increase levels of clitoral arousal toward orgasm.
Afterglow: Whether you use auto-pilot or manually control your experience, once you orgasm, you might not want intense sensations for a while. This toy has a button devoted solely to resetting pulsations to Level 1 in intensity and Climax Control so you can quickly and easily lighten up and enjoy the lingering orgasmic sensations. You can maintain a lower level of arousal unless/until you are ready to power it up for another go for the big O.
Travel Lock: Because airport security staff and luggage handlers have to deal with too many buzzing sex toys as it is. Oh, and you may be one of those who prefer not to advertise their sex toy use to strangers.
Warranty: Womanizer offers a five-year warranty on its products. This far exceeds what most toy companies offer so your investment is protected for a long time from most common issues.

Ok, great. Now we know the features. But what is the experience of using it like? Being the dedicated staff member I am, I took the Next for a test spin. I spent a few minutes familiarizing myself with the buttons and making sure I could find each one without looking. I followed the instructions to apply some water-based lube to the clitoral region and started the toy at its lowest settings. It was gently arousing—a pleasant, warm-up tease. I started to run through the settings and it wasn’t long before the gentle tease turned into full-blown, orgasm-inducing sensations. After the first wave of pleasure, I hit the afterglow button and enjoyed what I had just experienced. It was easy to play with the Climax Control (depth of sensation) at lower intensities and experience ever deepening, full-body orgasms. I finally stopped when my body tapped out from exhaustion. As I said, I’m a very dedicated staff member. So am I the outlier here? Reviews of the Next by Womanizer strongly suggest I’m not. Any review site is going to give this little gem a high rating, and for good reasons.

As You Like It Staff and Customer Reviews of the Next

So what do the experienced staff at As You Like It and our wonderful customers have to say about the Next by Womanizer? They don’t hold back on the praise!

“The Next is the most nuanced air pulse toy I’ve seen. I have a really sensitive nervous system so I overstimulate very quickly. I love that the Next is so gentle that I can play with it for a long time. The orgasms are toe-curling, deep and long. The experience is gentle but all-encompassing rather than a bright-burning flame. It’s definitely my favorite toy I’ve ever owned.” ~Yeehaw

“The Next is a vast improvement over previous incarnations of the Womanizer air pulse technology. To have not one or two but THREE different wavelengths to choose from is pure decadence. Instead of a single wave repeating more quickly to increase stimulation, you can start with a barely there sensation and increase gradually, slipping back down to barely there for a supreme edging or between orgasms experience. I have called air pulse the 30-second orgasm, but that lowest wavelength is a game extender. You can just ride that wave for as long as you like without worrying about being stuck on a plateau or missing your orgasmic window completely.” ~ Melissa

“As a trans man, finding an adult toy that doesn't overstimulate my nervous system is a massive challenge that no one told me I'd face. The Womanizer Next is one of the few toys that is both gentle enough to not overstimulate me and simultaneously capable of knocking me senseless. The range of strengths and depths allows for far more control than most toys. There's literally nothing like it. This became an instant favorite.” ~ Loki

“It gives you the most control you could ever want! It’s sleek and luxurious, with an elegant design, user-friendly buttons, elegantly designed, has user-friendly buttons, and can get quite powerful.” ~ Win

Recent As You Like It customers have made the following comments about the Next by Womanizer:

"I don't need another one now that I've got this!"
"There's nothing like it out there!"
"You know, at first I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much. Then I just said 'F*ck it' and went for it. I don't regret it. At all. And I'd do it again."
"This is all I need."

If you want to take your air pulse play to new levels, give the Womanizer Next a try. Many of us have found it worth the investment!
