What Is This Workshop About?

We are so excited to bring monthly facilitated discussions of topics in Sexuality Studies, LGBTQ Studies, Kink and BDSM, all from an intersectional perspective that is attentive to how race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability come together to shape how we experience the world. Please see this month’s topic below:

Let’s have a talk about race and its presence in kink. For example, how does the power connected to our intersectional identities, and race, in particular inform our D/s dynamics in ways we may not even realize? How do we understand power complexly in kink informed by anti-blackness, colonialism, genocide, incarcaration/interment, patriarchy, and white supremacy? How do these play out locally in our play spaces, community organizations, and clubs? These are just a few questions we may explore; however, you are encouraged to come with your own questions or contributions.

Participants will receive a suggested reading list following the dialogue

• Be aware that masking is optional for attendees. The presenter will not be masked when instructing. Please contact the store if you would like to request accomodations.

About the facilitator:

Dr. B (Fetlife: @‌Dr_B_Dialogues or @‌chingonakinkphd is a kinky, Leathergirl, Femme Chicana and Hip-Hop Feminist.  Since graduating with her doctorate in Performance and Cultural Studies she has held academic appointments at universities across the country while traveling extensively to speak about her research nationally and internationally for over twenty-five years. Dr. Calafell’s award winning and nationally recognized activism, teaching, and research in queerness and Latina/o/x/e Studies include foci in the experiences of BIPOC folx, Chicana, Black, and Hip-Hop Feminisms, kink, BDSM, and sex work. Dr. Calafell runs the Patreon ChingonaKinkPhD where she offers Chicana and Hip-Hop Feminist perspectives on Kink, BDSM, and femme fashion.

• Please note, all ticket sales are final.

• There are absolutely no returns for purchase of tickets to an event.

• Rainchecks are available up to two days before the event for a $3 fee per ticket.
